Partick Thistle expect Stephen O'Donnell to leave Firhill in the summer

Partick Thistle have confirmed they have rejected a £30,000 offer from Blackpool for Dundee United target Stephen O'Donnell.

The 22-year-old right-back is out of contract in the summer.

Thistle have indicated they do not wish to sell and Blackpool's bid is understood to be a fair way off the Glasgow club's valuation of the player.

But manager Alan Archibald admits that his club do not have the resources to prevent O'Donnell exiting this summer.

And the Thistle boss has also ruled out a move for former Celtic and Bristol City right-back Mark Wilson, who was released this week by United.

O'Donnell, who made one appearance for Scotland Under-21s, spent time as a youth with Aberdeen and Celtic before joining Thistle in 2011.

"I think there is a bit of interest from Dundee United and other clubs, but I don't think Stephen will be leaving in this window," said Archibald of the player, who has made 115 Thistle appearances.

"He's a free agent at the end of the season and there is every chance he will go then.

"With the teams who are showing a bit of interest in him, I don't think we would be able to match the wages that they could offer.

"But, at this stage, Stephen and young Dale Keenan are the only full-backs we've got on our books."

Archibald is keen to strengthen his squad this month but says 30-year-old Wilson, who had not appeared for United this season, is not on his wanted list.

"He's just not what we are looking for at the moment," said the manager. "It's a left full-back we've been trying to get first and foremost."

Archibald has been frustrated in his bid to recruit new signings.

"We tried to get one or two in on Monday and we thought we had them, but we've had a couple of knock-backs for different reasons," he admitted.

"We thought we had a defender in and it fell down at the last minute and the player changed his mind.

"We're very reluctant to gamble and just grab anybody. We want to make sure that the player we bring in is better than what we've got."
