Roma missed a chance to move on to the same points as Serie A leaders Juventus by drawing 1-1 at Palermo.

The hosts took the lead inside two minutes when Paulo Dybala shot into the bottom corner after being set up by midfielder Franco Vazquez.

But Roma equalised as Mattia Destro slid in to finish from close range after Kevin Strootman's knock-down from Miralem Pjanic's deep free-kick.

Roma had a chance to score a winner but Jose Holebas's 20-yard shot went wide.

Rudi Garcia's side, who had former England left-back Ashley Cole as an unused substitute, were runners-up last season and are hoping to win the Serie A title for the first time since 2001.

However, Juventus will go five points clear at the top if they win at home against Verona on Sunday (19:45 GMT).

Elsewhere in Serie A, Roberto Mancini's Inter Milan side were held to a goalless draw by Empoli and are ninth in the table, 17 points behind Juventus.
