Aldershot Town have relieved manager Andy Scott and his assistant Terry Bullivant of first-team duties.

The Shots lost at home to Kidderminster Harriers on Tuesday and one win in nine league games leaves them six points above the Conference relegation zone.

A club statement said the decision had been taken "to safeguard the team's immediate prospects".

Aldershot captain Chris Barker will take caretaker charge until a new manager is appointed.

The 34-year-old defender will be assisted by coach Matt Gray.

Scott and Bullivant were contracted to the Hampshire club until the summer of 2016, having signed new contracts in October 2013.

Former Brentford and Rotherham boss Scott was appointed Aldershot manager in February 2013 but was unable to save the club from relegation from League Two that season.

The Shots entered administration that summer and started the 2013-14 campaign in the Conference with a 10-point deduction, but 42-year-old Scott helped the club avoid a second successive relegation, finishing 19th and above the drop zone on goal difference.

After starting this season with just one defeat in their first six games, their subsequent form has been mixed.

They reached the second round of the FA Cup, beating League Two side Portsmouth in the first round, but were knocked out in the FA Trophy first round by Ryman Division One South side Burgess Hill Town.

"The club recognise and are grateful for Andy's contribution through a very difficult period of relegation and administration," the club statement said.

"The club hope that supporters will give their full backing to Chris, and will be unified behind a new manager in building a successful future for Aldershot."
