Middlesbrough have signed midfielder Adam Forshaw from Wigan Athletic for an undisclosed fee.

The 23-year-old, who only joined Wigan from Brentford last September, has agreed a three-and-a half-year deal.

Forshaw scored once in 17 appearances for Wigan, where he initially linked up again with Uwe Rosler, before the former Bees boss was sacked.

He played 100 games for Brentford following an initial loan spell from Everton, where he began his career.

"He's just the type of player I want here," Boro head coach Aitor Karanka told the club website., external

"He fits the profile of the players we want at the club. He's a good lad and he's a good player. It's important to bring in players who know the league and Adam fits that."

Forshaw added: "I know how big the club is. There's a good manager and a good set of players."
