Transfer Deadline Day: Port Vale sign O'Sullivan and Luer

Port Vale manager Rob Page described the departing Dany N'Guessan as "a top professional"

Port Vale have made two deadline day loan signings, as well as allowing striker Dany N'Guessan to leave the club by mutual consent.

Cardiff City midfielder Tommy O'Sullivan and Hull City striker Greg Luer, both 20, have been brought in on a month's loan.

But striker Tom Pope is to remain at the club, despite interest from League One rivals Barnsley.

Pope will now see out the remainder of his contract at Vale Park.

Stoke-on-Trent born Pope, 29, scored 31 goals as Vale won promotion from League Two two seasons ago.

He has been offered a new deal, but only if he accepts reduced terms.

Pope's continued presence for the rest of the season for League One play-off hopefuls Vale will counter the loss of N'Guessan.

The 27-year-old Frenchman netted three goals in 12 appearances after signing for Vale in October before extending his deal in December until the end of the season.

But chairman Norman Smurthwaite has honoured an agreement allowing the former Rangers, Leicester City and Southampton player to move on if he got a better offer, which appears to have come in from abroad.

"When Dany joined Port Vale, it was agreed that if he received a more lucrative offer from elsewhere, and subject to us agreeing terms, he would be allowed to leave and I am a man of my word," said Smurthwaite.

Wales Under-21 international O'Sullivan is known to Vale's Welsh boss Rob Page from the international scene.

"I know Tommy well from the Welsh youth set-up, from the Under-19s and Under-21s," said Page. "With Louis Dodds out, it's nice to bring someone in who is similar in style as a creative midfielder."

The 20-year-old Welshman has made just one first-team appearance for Cardiff this season, in their League Cup first-round win at Coventry in August - and he was also on the Bluebirds bench at Vale Park when they won 3-2 in the second round a fortnight later.

Luer goes out on loan just a month after joining Steve Bruce's Hull from non-league side Burgess Hill, who play in the Ryman South.

"Hull have invested in Greg and believe he has real potential," added Page.
