Danny Ings: Sean Dyche backs Burnley striker for England call-up

Danny Ings has scored eight goals in 23 appearances for Burnley this season

Burnley manager Sean Dyche has backed calls for striker Danny Ings to be included in the England squad.

The 22-year-old impressed in the Clarets' 2-2 draw with West Brom on Sunday, scoring his eighth goal of the season and providing an assist.

"He's a fine talent, there's no two ways about it," said Dyche.

"I can see why there are certain people in the media asking about England call-ups, not necessarily to start but in the squad."

Ings was a major threat to West Brom at Turf Moor on Sunday, particularly in the first half when his cross was dispatched by Ashley Barnes for the opener before he powered in a header of his own from George Boyd's cross.

It represents a return to form for the former Bournemouth striker, who Dyche suggested had been affected by speculation linking him with a big-money move away from Burnley in the January transfer window.

"He was excellent again today," added Dyche. "He's effervescent, his movement, his quality at times. He's growing into the league, he's understanding it better.

"He's a tremendous talent and we're delighted we stuck to our word and he's still a Burnley player."

England's next fixture is a European Championship qualifier against Lithuania at Wembley on 27 March, before travelling to Italy for a friendly four days later.

National boss Roy Hodgson has competition for places in attack, with the likes of Tottenham's Harry Kane, QPR's Charlie Austin, West Brom's Saido Berahino and Ings competing for a spot, along with regulars Daniel Sturridge, Rickie Lambert, both of Liverpool, and Manchester United's Wayne Rooney.

Ings' eight goals make him the fourth-highest scoring Englishman in the Premier League this season, behind Austin (13), Kane (12) and Berahino (nine).
