Jordy Hiwula: Man City loanee says Walsall spell will improve him

Hiwula has played for England at Under-18 and Under-19 level.

On-loan striker Jordy Hiwula believes his spell at League One Walsall will help him develop into a better player.

The 20-year-old, on a one-month deal from Manchester City, scored on his Saddlers debut in their 2-0 win at Doncaster on Saturday.

"Walsall have players from bigger clubs learning their trade here and I felt I would get to learn my trade and get better," Hiwula told BBC WM 95.6.

"I want to play well, score goals and keep my place in the team."

Saturday's result extended the Saddlers' unbeaten run to four matches and moved them up to 12th place in League One, only three points outside the play-offs.

Hiwula spent the first half of this season on loan at Yeovil Town, but failed to score in his eight league appearances.

His only goal in his spell at Huish Park came in their FA Cup first round win over Crawley in November.

But after an impressive debut for Walsall, boss Dean Smith was full of praise for Hiwula's attitude behind the scenes.

"The fact that he was willing to come out straight away after having a spell at Yeovil just showed that he was hungry and the right sort of person we want at the football club," Smith said.

"There were question marks about him when he didn't score so his goal will give him a tremendous boost," added Smith.

"He is a terrific talent and we are pleased Manchester City have allowed us to help with his development."
