Newcastle: John Carver warns 'disrespectful' Remy Cabella

Newcastle manager John Carver has told Remy Cabella not to be "disrespectful" to his team-mates following his angry reaction to being substituted.

Cabella, 24, threw a water bottle after he was replaced during Newcastle's 1-1 draw at home to Stoke on Sunday.

Carver has spoken to Cabella and warned the France winger about his conduct.

"All I said to Remy, who threw his bottle on the floor, was: 'Don't be disrespectful to the guy who's going on'," Carver said.

"It's great to see someone react to being taken off the pitch, but there's a way to do that.

"Gabriel Obertan was going on, and don't be disrespectful. It could be the other way round in the future."

Carver on why he substituted Cabella

Carver says he withdrew Cabella, who joined Newcastle from Montpellier in July 2014, to keep him fresh for Wednesday's Premier League match against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.

"I just thought it was right to get him off the pitch, bearing in mind that we've got another game coming up. He did well in the game - he was very unfortunate with his headed chance - and I thought his contribution was excellent," Carver said.

"I told him that on Monday morning. I had him in the office, and said: 'Look, you've been great since I've taken over - you need to continue that, but be careful with your reaction'."

Newcastle midfielder Jack Colback says there is no extra motivation for his team-mates to get a result against former Magpies boss Alan Pardew, who left to take over at Crystal Palace in January.

"As players, we aren't going into the game thinking, 'Let's get one over the old manager'," Colback said.

"We're just going in to get three points and push up the table, so that's what we will be focusing on."
