Karanka has won 34 of his 67 games since taking charge of Boro in November 2013, with only 15 defeats

Middlesbrough head coach Aitor Karanka says he cannot allow himself to become excited like a supporter until the goal of Championship promotion is achieved.

Boro are currently top of the division, and fans have also been treated to an FA Cup victory against Premier League champions Manchester City.

Tuesday's 2-1 win at Blackpool extended Boro's unbeaten run to 10 games.

"The day I think everything is done is the day I make a big mistake, so I have to stay calm," Karanka told BBC Tees.

"I understand the fans and I'm very excited when I go home from work and I think of how the team was when I came and how it is now.

"But I have to think of the future because nothing is done."

The Teessiders travel to Arsenal in the FA Cup fifth round on Saturday, having also taken Liverpool to a penalty shoot-out in the League Cup this term, as well as beating City.

"It's going to be a massive game, everyone at the club expects we can beat them," Karanka added.

"But if we go there and think it is going to be easy or another game we can beat them without playing our best, we can make a mistake."
