Ellis Harrison's second-half strike handed Bristol Rovers a 1-0 win at Gateshead.

Conference leaders Bristol Rovers made it five wins from five as they overcame a stubborn Gateshead side.

The home side took the game to Rovers in the first half but neither side were able to open the scoring.

The Pirates went ahead when substitute Ellis Harrison lifted the ball over Gateshead keeper Adam Bartlett to score his sixth goal of the season.

Gateshead remain in 10th place while Rovers maintain their two-point lead at the top of the table.

Bristol Rovers manager Darrell Clarke told BBC Radio Bristol:

"We knew how difficult this game was going to be because of the game they gave us at our place.

"We knew we had to be patient and disciplined at times and I thought the lads dug in superbly.

"Ellis broke through and got the winner which I'm delighted with.

"With the greatest respect, he can be a bit daft but he's knuckled down and worked hard."
