Garry Monk distances himself from director's Louis Van Gaal comments

Swansea City boss Garry Monk says derogatory comments reportedly made about Louis van Gaal by one of the club's directors do not represent his or the club's views.

John van Zweden reportedly told a Dutch TV crew the Manchester United manager was "arrogant" after the Welsh club's 2-1 win.

The Swans have said they will be investigating the allegations.

"They are not the views shared by myself or the club," said Monk

"The chairman has already said that.

"I was made aware of the comments, but I'm not fully aware of what context they were said in, or if and what was actually said.

"I have no problem whatsoever, he (van Gaal) is the character he is. He's a very experienced man and has great belief in what he does."

Swansea chairman Huw Jenkins said he was "disappointed" with the alleged remarks.

"We feel we have built up that good relationship over a number of years and will continue to work hard to preserve our image within the Premier League and the game in general at all costs," Jenkins said.

Van Zweden, who joined the Swans board in 2002, and Van Gaal are both Dutch, with the United manager coming from Amsterdam and the Swansea director from Den Haag.

Van Gaal felt United "dominated" Swansea and were the unlucky team during Saturday's win but Monk does not think his opinion was a sign of sour grapes.

Ander Herrera put United ahead but Ki Sung-yueng equalised for Swansea two minutes later, before Jonjo Shelvey's shot deflected off Bafetimbi Gomis to secure the winner.

"What people say afterwards is their own view of the game and can always be different to someone else's, that's their prerogative," Monk added.

"I probably didn't necessarily agree with the way he assessed the game at the end, but it's not something that bothers or concerns me."
