Dundee United have appealed against Nadir Ciftci's two-match suspension for allegedly kicking Celtic's Scott Brown on the head at Tannadice on Sunday.

It means the Turkish striker will put his case to a tribunal on Thursday.

He was issued a notice of complaint by the Scottish FA compliance officer for violent conduct during the Scottish Cup quarter-final, which ended 1-1.

Ciftci is already suspended for Sunday's Scottish League Cup final between the clubs.

If the ban is upheld, Ciftci will also miss the Scottish Cup quarter-final replay against Celtic on 18 March, as well as the following league match against Celtic.

The SFA will also consider appeals against red cards shown to United's Paul Paton and Celtic's Virgil van Dijk.

United have claimed a case of mistaken identity against Northern Ireland midfielder Paton.

Celtic will argue that Dutch defender Van Dijk was wrongfully dismissed.

The two players' cases will be dealt with at a tribunal on Thursday.

Celtic are unhappy that the SFA has not taken action against United's Calum Butcher - the player who was involved in the incident that led to his team-mate, Paton, being sent off.

A club statement read: "It seems completely illogical and fundamentally unfair that, in an incident where mistaken identity has been claimed, the Dundee United player now identified clearly as being involved in the incident appears to have no case to answer - and would be available to play in the League Cup final and the Scottish Cup replay between the two teams - while Celtic's player may potentially miss both of those matches."
