On-loan Monaco striker Radamel Falcao was substituted after 72 minutes while playing for Manchester United's under-21 side against Tottenham on Tuesday.

Falcao, who earns a reported £260,000 a week, failed to score and was replaced by Joshua Harrop in the 1-1 draw.

United have a £43.5m option to buy the 29-year-old Colombia international.

However, he has started just two of their last five games and was an unused substitute in Monday's FA Cup quarter-final defeat at home to Arsenal.

Striker James Wilson, keeper Victor Valdes and defender Rafael da Silva - who scored United's goal - were also picked for the Under-21 Premier League game at Old Trafford.

Teams are allowed to field up to three overage outfield players in the competition's matches.

Falcao has four goals in 20 outings since moving to England with a reputation as a leading striker, with 52 goals in 68 league appearances at Atletico Madrid earning him a £52m move to Monaco.

Defender Rafael, 24, has made just 10 appearances for the first team this season, while Valdes, 33, has yet to feature in Louis van Gaal's side since signing as a free agent.
