David Parker: Birmingham City better for WSL title disappointment

Manager David Parker says Birmingham City are a better side for missing out on the Women's Super League One title on a dramatic final day last season.

Birmingham could only draw against Notts County to finish third, just one point behind champions Liverpool.

"We were the ones that let the title slip out of our hands," Parker told BBC Midlands Today.

"We will learn from those mistakes and be better for it. We want to bring silverware back to the Midlands."

The final day result against the Lady Magpies - a game in which England striker Karen Carney had a penalty saved by Notts keeper Carly Telford - also cost Birmingham a Champions League place.

But Parker said their failings last term went beyond the dramatic climax to the season.

"If we had just done the business at the right time, we could have finished it before the end of the season," he continued.

"We only have ourselves to blame. We are the ones that didn't take the opportunities when they arose."

Birmingham begin their WSL 1 campaign against Manchester City at Damson Park on Sunday, having already beaten Liverpool to progress to the last eight of the FA Women's Cup.
