Euro 2016: Wales in good position to qualify - Ashley Williams

Captain Ashley Williams says Wales are well placed to qualify for Euro 2016 following their 3-0 away win against Israel on Saturday.

Gareth Bale scored twice as Chris Coleman's side leapfrogged their hosts to top Group B with five matches left to play.

Williams, 30, says the victory raises hopes that the side can finally reach their first major finals since 1958.

"We've put ourselves in a good position," said Williams.

"I'm doubly happy. It's my 50th cap which means so much to me and more importantly the team performance and result was exactly what we wanted."

Israel started Saturday's game as Group B leaders having won their first three matches, before Bale and his team-mates crafted their biggest away win since a 5-2 victory in Slovakia in 2007.

It is the first time since 1976 that Wales are unbeaten in five games in a single qualification campaign, having won three and drawn two of their five qualifiers so far.

Coleman's men next face group favourites Belgium, who beat Cyprus 5-0 on Saturday, on 12 June in Cardiff.

Swansea City defender Williams said Wales are taking nothing for granted.

"We wanted to have a good start [to the group], we've maintained it," he said.

"Now we've got to go to the next game against Belgium at home, which is another difficult one, and keep the momentum going and then we'll see where we are going into next season.

"We keep our feet on the ground until it's done and we've qualified.

"We know that we've got work to do, there's no way that we'll put our feet up now.

"We're just going to continue to go on and on and try to build and build and even for the bigger picture, for beyond this qualification, we want to keep the ball rolling and we are doing that at the minute."
