Gibraltar interim head coach David Wilson described the joy of his team's first competitive goal as "amazing".

Lee Casciaro, a Ministry of Defence policeman, equalised against Scotland, who eventually won the Euro 2016 qualifying match at Hampden 6-1.

"We knew the feeling we had wouldn't last," said Glasgow-born Wilson. "But while it did, it was amazing.

"That moment when we scored our first goal at this level, I went through every emotion."

Wilson, who had been Allen Bula's assistant until his sacking in early March, had spoken before the game of how he would sing both national anthems at Hampden.

And the Scot could not hide his delight at 33-year-old Casciaro, a striker with Gibraltar's champions, Lincoln Red Imps, hitting the net after four straight defeats without a goal in their first-ever European Championship campaign.

"It was brilliant," added Wilson, a former junior footballer with Kilwinning Rangers. "The whole day was. We had come to make history by scoring a goal and we did it."
