Manager James Fowler has agreed a contract extension at Queen of the South, keeping him at Palmerston until the end of next season.

The 34-year-old former Kilmarnock midfielder took over when Jim McIntyre left for Ross County in September.

And the Dumfries side are currently fourth in the Championship, one point ahead of Falkirk in the play-off race.

"It's been an enjoyable year, although very difficult and hard work," said Fowler.

With his own future decided, the manager is now concentrating on shaping a squad for the next campaign and the push for promotion to the top flight.

"If we can now get players sorted there is no excuses of distractions or things going on elsewhere, so I'm glad to get it done," he added.

"We'll get on with sorting out players now and we'll stay focused for the top four finish. As well as looking forward to next year."
