Paul Hayes scored a penalty in the 12th minute of injury time for Wycombe as they boosted their promotion hopes by beating Exeter.
The hosts took the lead when on-loan Sam Saunders played a one-two with Hayes and finished with his left foot.
Exeter improved after the break and Liam Sercombe headed them level.
The Chairboys finished a man down when Nico Yennaris had to come off and they had used all their substitutes, but Hayes converted from the spot late on.
Gareth Ainsworth's side had already had to deal with two injuries inside the first 30 minutes when Aaron Holloway was subbed, and his replacement, Matt McClure, lasted just 10 minutes before coming off.
Wycombe remain third and are still four points ahead of fourth-placed Bury, who have have a game in hand, while Exeter are 10th, four points off the play-offs.
Wycombe boss Gareth Ainsworth told BBC Three Counties Radio: "There was silence just before Hayes took that penalty that I've never ever heard here. It was scary.
"On chances I think we deserved it, on possession maybe not. They got a lot of good crosses into the box and played some good football.
"I'm incredibly worried that we haven't got the squad to finish the job, the lads are absolutely on empty.
"Players are playing through injury. What we're going to do Saturday I don't know."
