Walsall keeper Richard O'Donnell has now kept four successive clean sheets for the Saddlers

Walsall have offered goalkeeper Richard O'Donnell a new two-year contract to stay at the Banks's Stadium.

O'Donnell, 26, is in his second season with the Saddlers following his arrival from Chesterfield in July 2013.

"We've made Richard a good offer and and now it's up to him whether he wants to sign," said boss Dean Smith.

"I'm hopeful. We'd love him to stay. And, at the moment, we're just waiting to hear back from him and his representative," he told BBC WM 95.6.

Richard O'Donnell - Walsall's Big O

Richard O'Donnell has kept clean sheets in 17 League One games this term - and in four of Walsall's five Johnstone's Paint Trophy ties on the road to their first-ever visit to Wembley.

"He likes it here, he comes in with a smile on his face every day and we've offered him a really good contract, but now it's down to him."

O'Donnell has been a major force for the League One side this season, keeping 21 clean sheets in 37 appearances - the last four of them in successive matches.

With four games to go, he has a chance to equal the club record of 22 in a season set by Clayton Ince, external in Walsall's last promotion season under Richard Money in 2006-07.
