Swansea City: Ki Sung-yueng voted Player of Year

Ki Sung-yueng's eight goals for Swansea this season are his best return in British football

Swansea City midfielder Ki Sung-yueng has been named Player of the Year for 2014-15 after a vote by supporters.

"Swansea City has been the best team of my life," Ki said at the awards ceremony at Liberty Stadium.

Goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski won the Players' Player of the Year and Best Newcomer awards, while Jay Fulton is the Young Player of the Season.

Wayne Routledge won Goal of the Season, while Bafetimbi Gomis was named Top Goalscorer of the Season.

Ki was Swansea's record signing when he joined from Celtic in August 2012 for a fee believed to be around £6m.

The South Korean made 38 appearances for the Welsh side in his first season but was then sent out on loan to Sunderland by former Swansea manager Michael Laudrup.

The Black Cats were eager to sign Ki permanently but he was persuaded to stay with Swansea by current boss Garry Monk, who took over from Laudrup in January 2014, and signed a new four-year deal the following August.

Ki has repaid that faith this campaign, proving himself a key member of the squad and hitting eight goals in 36 appearances - his best return in British football.
