Rhys Webb's Pro12 Player of Year award 'credit' to Ospreys

Ospreys scrum-half Rhys Webb has scored 12 tries in the Pro12 this season

Coach Steve Tandy believes the whole Ospreys team played its part in helping scrum-half Rhys Webb to his Pro12 Player of the Year award.

Wales' first-choice number nine topped a poll of club captains after scoring 12 tries in the tournament this season.

"It's a great credit to Rhys picking up Player of the Year and it's something he deserves," Tandy said.

"But I think the team have got to take a bit of credit for allowing a lot of platforms in the way we try to play."

Tandy added: "You've got people inside him: Dan Baker, Dan Biggar and Sam Davies, Josh Matavesi around him.

"So I think the team will take a little bit of credit in and around that but his performances have been outstanding.

"He's been consistent. It's been great for him not to have an injury-plagued season. He's had a real good pre-season to start with. He's sharp, he looks after his recovery. He is a professional athlete."

Webb has the opportunity to add to his season's try tally when Ospreys travel to Munster on Saturday for their Pro12 play-off semi-final.

The Welsh region failed to secure a home tie despite winning 24-20 in Connacht on the final day of the regular season.

The lack of a fourth try for a bonus point allowed Munster and Glasgow to leap-frog Ospreys, who must now become the first team to win an away semi-final since the play-offs were introduced.

Centre Matavesi is a doubt for the trip to Thomond Park after picking up an abductor injury, but wing Jeff Hassler could recover from knee trouble.
