St Johnstone: Fourth place 'tremendous' says Tommy Wright

Tommy Wright on European football: "The players love it, the fans love it, the club loves it and I love it."

Finishing fourth in the Premiership and securing a potential European place is a "tremendous achievement," says St Johnstone's Tommy Wright.

Saints, who ended the season with a 1-0 win at Aberdeen, will play in Europe if Inverness CT win the Scottish Cup.

"There was a lot at stake and, for us to get fourth place is a tremendous achievement. I'm really pleased for the players," he said.

"I think that's 17 wins and 57 points; we're doing something right."

Wright, who watched Chris Kane score the winner at Pittodrie with his first goal for the Perth club, believes his side would be even more dangerous with greater firepower.

"If we could get a goalscorer, somebody to bang in 20-25 goals, who knows?" said the Saints boss.

"But I'm not going to be greedy. I'm delighted with the performances and ending in fourth place is a tremendous achievement.

"There was a lot of talk about fourth place guaranteeing a European place but Inverness need to go and play against a very good side in Falkirk.

"We can look on the Scottish Cup final with some meaning for us."

Wright said European football would give everyone at McDiarmid Park a welcome shot in the arm.

"The players love it, the fans love it, the club loves it and I love it," he added.

"It's a great experience and something we want to experience again. We have to make the most of it because we've had a long spell when we haven't been successful.

"So, if we can get in on the back of Inverness winning the Scottish Cup, four years in a row, would be incredible."
