Two-time champions Germany were held to a Women's World Cup draw by Norway in Ottawa, Canada.

Having thrashed Ivory Coast 10-0 in their first match, Germany took just six minutes to go ahead through Anja Mittag's dinked finish.

But Maren Mjelde equalised for Norway in the second half with a beautifully curled free-kick into the top corner.

In the other Group B match, Thailand came from behind to win 3-2 against Ivory Coast, who are eliminated.

Ange Nguessan put the African side ahead in the fourth minute but two goals from Orathai Srimanee and one from Thanatta Chawong put Thailand in charge.

Josee Nahi pulled a late goal back for Ivory Coast, who then hit the crossbar and missed a chance to equalise in stoppage time.

In Group A, the Netherlands suffered a shock 1-0 defeat against China as Wang Lisi scored a last minute winner.

Germany hit double figures in their opening Group B game and dominated the first half, but could only follow it up by taking a point, despite having 27 shots in the match.

Ranked one in the world, Germany have been touted as one of the favourites for the tournament and won the title in 2003 and 2007. Having collected four points from their first two games, they top the table on goal difference ahead of Norway.

Both teams are now expected to go through to the last-16, after the Norwegians beat Thailand 4-0 in their first game, with the team finishing second in the group going on to face the second-placed team in England's group.

Mittag bagged a hat-trick in the first match and quickly got on the scoresheet again, netting from close range after Ingrid Hjelmseth failed to hold on to Dzsenifer Marozsan's shot.

Despite being on top, the Germans were unable to add to their solitary goal and were punished when Saskia Bartusiak brought down Isabel Herlovsen on the edge of the area, and Mjelde stepped up to stroke in the equaliser.
