Aberdeen say Kenny McLean is expected to be fit to travel to Macedonia for their Europa League opener despite missing out against St Johnstone.

The midfielder took a knock in Thursday's 8-2 hammering of Brechin City, but could yet face Shkendija the first-round qualifier in Skopje.

Adam Rooney gave the Dons victory with a second-half penalty in their friendly against their Premiership rivals.

He had scored a hat-trick at the same Glebe Park venue against Brechin.

St Johnstone are also preparing for the first leg of a Europa League qualifier and are travelling to Armenia to take on Alashkert.

New Dons goalkeeper Danny Ward, signed on a season-long loan deal from Liverpool, played the second half against Saints after replacing Scott Brown.

Rooney scored from the penalty spot in the 71st minute after Niall McGinn was brought down inside the area.
