Stuart Carswell is dropping down a division to join relegated St Mirren in the Championship

St Mirren have signed Stuart Carswell, following the midfielder's release from Motherwell.

The 21 year-old has signed a one-year deal with the option of a further year.

Having made his debut for the Steelmen in April 2011, Carswell made 21 appearances last season - starting in 16 games.

"I'm looking forward to a new challenge and getting the club back up where it belongs," Carswell told the Paisley team's website.

"I came out to the training ground last week and was very impressed with [manager] Ian Murray and the facilities there. I can't wait to get started."
