Jacob Mellis: Bury sign former Chelsea and Blackpool midfielder

Bury have signed midfielder Jacob Mellis on a two-year deal after his release by Blackpool.

The 24-year-old came through the youth system at Sheffield United and then went to Chelsea where he made one substitute appearance.

He worked with Shakers boss David Flitcroft at Barnsley and spent the end of last season on loan at Oldham.

"Jacob has not yet reached his potential and it is our aim to give him a home to fulfil that," said Flitcroft.

"In the time I worked with him we built a very good relationship based on trust, and I believe that this was a major factor in Jacob coming to Bury."

He joins Tom Pope, Peter Clarke and Leon Clarke as new signings ahead of next season.
