Reading: Defender Paul McShane signs following Hull City release

Paul McShane follows former Hull team-mate Stephen Quinn to the Madejski Stadium

Reading have signed defender Paul McShane on a three-year contract following his release by Hull City.

McShane, 29, becomes the club's third signing in the space of four days following deals for striker Orlando Sa and midfielder Stephen Quinn.

The Republic of Ireland international has Premier League experience with Hull, Sunderland and West Brom.

McShane will meet up with his new team-mates on Sunday before the squad fly out to Thailand for a pre-season tour.

He follows former Hull team-mate Quinn to the Madejski Stadium, who was also out of contract at The Tigers.

"As well as his obvious talents as an experienced defender, who is aggressive both in the air and on the ground, I felt he was a good character to bring into our squad," Reading manager Steve Clarke told the club website.

McShane has been capped 37 times by the Republic of Ireland, most recently against England in a 0-0 draw in Dublin last month.

Meanwhile, Reading have confirmed former Bolton and Wigan goalkeeper Ali Al-Habsi is training with the club with a view to a permanent deal.

The Oman international, 33, will train under new goalkeeping coach Dave Beasant, who was appointed last Friday.

Al-Habsi spent a month on loan with Brighton last season.
