Swansea City: Jonjo Shelvey signs new four-year deal

Midfielder Jonjo Shelvey has signed a new contract which will keep him at Swansea City for another four seasons.

The 23-year-old England international played 35 times in the 2014-15 season, scoring three times.

He had two years still to run on his original contract, but has agreed fresh terms which will keep him at Liberty Stadium until June 2019.

"I'm glad to get the papers signed so I can now concentrate on my football," Shelvey told the club's website.

"I feel I've got better. I thought I did well in my first year.

"[But] I didn't start off too well last season - I had a sticky patch - but at the back end of last season I really kicked on."

Shelvey was sent-off against Everton in November 2014, and suspended for four games at the start of January this year after Swansea accepted a charge of violent conduct after the player appeared to catch Liverpool's Emre Can with his arm during a 4-1 defeat at Anfield.

He was also told by manager Garry Monk to "wise up" when he was substituted after an hour of the 1-0 win over Aston Villa on Boxing Day 2014.

However Shelvey, who was was signed by Michael Laudrup from Liverpool for £5m in 2013, played a key role in the Swans' strong end to the Premier League season which saw them amass a club record 56 points as they finished in eighth place.
