Jersey manager Jimmy Reilly says he is pleased with how his squad played in their 3-0 loss to National League South side Sutton United at Springfield.

The island side were missing a number of key players, with only seven of the squad taking on Sutton having been part of Jersey's Island Games team.

"The lads did well," Reilly told BBC Radio Jersey.

"These guys haven't played probably for a couple of months and they've come in and done a great job."

Jersey were knocked out at the group stage of their home Island Games last month.

They will travel to Isthmian League Division One North side Thamesmead Town on 1 August for another friendly.

"I thought we kept the ball well, we lost a couple of bad goals from set-pieces and a 30-yarder, so all in all I think we did well," added Reilly.

"It's a great workout for us to play against the quality of Sutton. I thought we matched them and had a couple of chances in the first half and a couple in the second half.

"Without a lot of the Island Games squad involved I thought the guys did fantastic and worked their socks off."
