Birmingham City 2-0 Gillingham

Wes Thomas scored twice to earn Birmingham a third-round League Cup tie with rivals Aston Villa after a win over in-form Gillingham.

Thomas opened the scoring from close range in the first-half, tucking home Paul Robinson's header from a corner.

After the break, the striker netted his second from another corner, when David Davis played a half-cleared set-piece back into his path and he slotted in.

The defeat was early League One leaders Gillingham's first of the season.
