Former Aberdeen, Fulham and Scotland striker Graham Leggat has died at the age of 81.

Leggat also had spells at Birmingham, Rotherham and Bromsgrove.

"Everyone at Aberdeen is saddened with the news that former star Graham Leggat, arguably one of the best players ever to grace Pittodrie, has passed away in Canada," said the club.

A Fulham statement added: "All at Fulham are thinking of Graham's family and friends at this time."

Aberdeen-born Leggat scored 64 goals in 109 games for the Dons between 1953 and 1958, and netted eight goals in 18 games for his country.

He also played in the 1958 World Cup in Sweden, before moving to Fulham, where he scored 134 goals in 280 games.

The highlight of his spell at the Cottagers was scoring the quickest hat-trick in top-flight history, netting a three-minute treble against Ipswich in 1963, a record that stood until the 2014-15 season.

An Aberdeen statement said: "The term 'legend' is overused these days, but in Graham's case it was entirely appropriate.

"He was a wonderful servant for both club and country and our thoughts are with his family at this extremely sad time."

He moved to Canada in 1971 to manage Toronto Metros, before later working as a journalist and commentator.
