Hearts have lodged an appeal against the red card shown to Callum Paterson in the 3-2 defeat to Hamilton Accies.

Referee Willie Collum sent the defender off for a challenge on the Accies midfielder Darian Mackinnon with Hearts leading 2-1.

Hearts head coach Robbie Neilson said the decision was wrong, and blamed it for their first defeat of the season.

Neilson added that his players had trained with 10 men after learning Willie Collum was to referee the match.

The Scottish FA compliance officer Tony McGlennan is to review the comments made following the game, and could take action against Neilson.

After the match Neilson said: "The game has been ruined by a decision that is not a sending-off.

"We actually practised during the week going down to 10 men because of the environment we're coming to and the officials who are taking the game."
