Marinus Dijkhuizen: Brentford boss "feels no pressure"

Brentford head coach Marinus Dijkhuizen is not concerned his job is under threat despite a stuttering start to the Championship season.

The Bees, who reached the play-offs last season under Mark Warburton, have only won two of their opening seven games and sit 17th in the table.

"I feel no pressure from the board," the Dutchman told BBC London 94.9.

"Last season was a big achievement but where we are now is normal, with all the injuries and all the problems."

The west London club have been hit by a series of injuries this season, with record signing Andreas Bjelland out for the whole campaign, fellow summer arrival Josh McEachran yet to make his debut and winger Jota out with an ankle injury.

Several other players have suffered short-term injuries which have kept them sidelined, with 10 players unavailable for the victory over Preston at the weekend.

Brentford also had to re-lay the playing surface at Griffin Park, leading to the postponement of their league game against Birmingham last month.

Dijkhuizen joined the Bees this summer after leaving Dutch Eredivisie side Excelsior, whom he had led to promotion in 2014 and then guided to survival last season.

The 43-year-old says the spotlight on clubs in England is greater than in his homeland.

"The pressure at Excelsior was not big because we were the underdog and everybody thought we were going to go down," he said.

"There was not pressure from outside but I put pressure on myself and the team.

"I don't like all the scrutiny in the papers [in England]. I don't read the papers over here, so that's easy for me."
