Kidderminster Harriers sign ex-Baggies youngster George Cater

Cater was only 13 when it was announced he would be joining West Brom

Kidderminster Harriers have brought in teenage striker George Cater on a contract until the end of the season.

The 18-year-old was released this summer after four years coming through the ranks at West Bromwich Albion.

He is the second player signed by the club's football development director, agent Colin Gordon, in the four games since he took caretaker charge.

Ex-Motherwell midfielder Zaine Francis-Angol scored on his debut in Tuesday's 1-1 home draw with Boreham Wood.

Cater, who will be involved in Harriers' Under-21 fixtures, as well as training with the first team, first linked up with the struggling Worcestershire club in pre-season.

"I am happy to have signed," he said. "I really enjoyed my time here in pre-season. I am just glad to be able to get my head down and get to work."

Cater may be in contention for Saturday's trip to Macclesfield, when Gordon will still be in charge.

The National League's bottom club, who have not won in 15 games this season, are looking to appoint a new head coach with a good track record for bringing through young players.

Experienced Dave Hockaday, who brought through Ashley Young in his time as Academy boss at Watford, would tick a lot of boxes after his subsequent experiences in management at Forest Green and Leeds.

Former Peterborough United coach Gavin Strachan is also reportedly among the names under consideration by the Harriers board, but Solihull Moors manager Marcus Bignot, who has also been linked, is understood to be happy where he is and not interested.

The club now hope to make an announcement ahead of next Tuesday's trip to Altrincham.
