Garry Monk backs Swansea City to end winless run

Swansea's worst winless run under Garry Monk came in February and March 2014 - six games

Manager Garry Monk expects Swansea City to bounce back after their 1-0 defeat by Stoke left them winless in five Premier League games.

Bojan punished Swans captain Ashley Williams's foul on him with an early penalty.

Swansea tried in vain to respond and defeat dropped Monk's side to 14th in the table.

"We went five games without a win last season. I'm not worried. We'll come through it no problem," said Monk.

Jonjo Shelvey had Swansea's best chance to level, but his powerful, angled shot rebounded off a goalpost.

Monk felt Swansea deserved a draw against former Wales striker Mark Hughes' side, but had no complaints about losing.

"I knew they'd come and play counter-attacking," said Monk. "The difficulty is not giving away that first goal.

"Once they got it, it was clear they were going to defend deep. We found it difficult to break them down."

Swansea have not won in six games in all competitions since beating Manchester United 2-1 in August.

"We've had a month of not hitting those levels," added Monk.

"They're very good players. I need to get them back to that level. I have big confidence in this group.

"We had a lot more of the ball in the second half but they sat everyone on top of their 18-yard box.

"I think we deserved a point but I can't grumble with a defeat."
