Former Manchester United and West Bromwich Albion midfielder Jonathan Greening has re-registered as a player for York City - 18 months after his last professional appearance.

The 36-year-old, who started his career with the Minstermen and now coaches at the League Two club, played for ninth-tier Tadcaster Albion last season.

Greening has agreed non-contract terms and could face Plymouth on Saturday.

His last Football League game came for Nottingham Forest in May 2014.

"With a number of key midfielders out of action, Jonathan will bring experience to the side which could prove vital for us," new manager Jackie McNamara told the York club website., external

"He played in a behind-closed-doors friendly recently and now he is excited about having the opportunity of playing for York City once more."

Meanwhile, York have extended the loan of Oldham Athletic striker Rhys Turner, 20, for a further month.
