  7. Man of the matchpublished at 18:38 Greenwich Mean Time 13 November 2015

More from man of the match Alex Hales on the third ODI in Sharjah on Tuesday 17 November: "It's a very important contest. We've done very well to get ourselves back in this series and we can't afford to be complacent."

  8. Captain's viewpublished at 18:37 Greenwich Mean Time 13 November 2015

Pakistan captain Azhar Ali: "England played really well. We were expecting them to come hard at us. Hales played some good shots but we contained them with 283 as it looked like they were going to go 300-plus and our bowlers tried hard.

"But we should have chased the total. We didn't start well and didn't play the brand of cricket we wanted to play. I take responsibility for that as we didn't get going at the start and that put pressure on the batsmen to come.

"Babar Azam has been opening in domestic cricket so we had to put him up the order with Rizwan coming in, as you can't have two players at six."

  9. Man of the matchpublished at 18:36 Greenwich Mean Time 13 November 2015

Man of the match Alex Hales, who made 109 off 117 balls: "It was a very important innings, particularly from a team perspective and the top three. We knew we needed to post a big score and we managed to do that.

"It was one of those wickets where you need to get in and give yourself a bit of time."

  10. Man of the matchpublished at 18:35

...and the (main) Man of the Match award goes to Alex Hales.

(Someone tell me how Wahab and Willey get awards for three wickets, and Chris Woakes doesn't get one for four?)

"They've got talent. You want players who can adapt and play in different conditions. The way Hales and Roy played today, they showed they've got the maturity and talent. If they can just master different conditions, they will be a brilliant opening partnership for a long time."

"He has got a good eye and good range of shots. He plants the front foot and goes at the ball outside off stump - that's where he's vulnerable."

An ODI with a few memorable moments - such as the invasion of the cats - rather than an all-time classic. But I'd imagine it'll be in Alex Hales' DVD collection, and as some have pointed out, it may have helped to book his place as England's next Test opener/fall guy (delete as applicable) for that Boxing Day Test in Durban.

"Hales' excellent hundred showed maturity - he applied himself. The top six have cashed in with some runs in this game or the last. And well done to the bowlers.

"There are a few small areas, a few tweaks - they will want to look at how they played at the end of the innings - but they can be really pleased."
