Wolverhampton Wanderers have extended the loan of Newcastle United centre-back Mike Williamson until 16 January.

Williamson, 32, has played three games for the Championship club since arriving at Molineux at the end of October on an initial one-month deal.

"We're delighted Mike will be with us through a very busy December and Christmas period," head coach Kenny Jackett told the club website., external

"He has brought a lot of experience and physical presence to the back four."

Brought in to bolster a defence without the likes of Ethan Ebanks-Landell (broken foot) and Kortney Hause, who has a hamstring injury, Williamson has helped Wolves keep two clean sheets in his three appearances.

"Mike will give us some real competition and allow us to take our time with the players coming back," said Jackett.

"He has helped the players around him at a time when we have had a number of injuries to centre backs."

Williamson is now potentially available for another 11 Championship games, with his last one scheduled to be against Cardiff on the day his latest deal runs out.
