Man City 1-4 Liverpool: Pellegrini angry at 'disastrous' defeat

Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini said his side's 4-1 home defeat by Liverpool made him "more than angry".

Eliaquim Mangala's own goal after seven minutes set the pattern for a poor defensive display by Pellegrini's side.

They were 3-0 down after 32 minutes, and Sergio Aguero's goal just before half-time did not spark a revival for the hosts.

"It was a complete disaster, the whole team," said Pellegrini.

"I am more than angry. It is unbelievable the performance we had.

Aguero, who was substituted after 66 minutes, looked ahead to the Champions League match against Juventus

"I have never seen this team play in the way they did."

After Mangala's early own goal, cool finishes from Philippe Coutinho and Roberto Firmino put Liverpool firmly in control.

Martin Skrtel sealed the victory nine minutes from time after Aguero marked his return from a hamstring injury with a well-taken goal.

Pellegrini added: "It is difficult to understand why we should play so badly - not just one name but a complete team in defending or attacking possession."

City's defeat - their second at home in the Premier League this season - saw them replaced by Leicester at the top of the table.

Liverpool, meanwhile, climbed to ninth as they responded well to their first loss under the management of Jurgen Klopp.

The former Borussia Dortmund coach said: "Two weeks ago we lost the game against Crystal Palace, now we have taken those points back."
