Scotland: Gordon Strachan to name two squads for friendlies

Scotland manager Gordon Strachan will name two different Scotland squads for friendly matches against Czech Republic and Denmark in March.

The Scots will travel to Prague to play Czech Republic on 24 March before hosting Denmark five days later.

Strachan said wants to give opportunities to those who did not play much during Euro 2016 qualifying.

"It also allows us the flexibility to take a look at some players who are emerging," he said.

The Scottish Football Association is believed to be keen to secure another friendly in early June, with World Cup qualifying beginning later in the year.

The match against the Czechs will be their first since their unsuccessful Euro 2016 qualifying campaign ended.

"We would all rather be using these matches to prepare for the Euros this summer, but we need to get over that disappointment collectively - coaches, players and supporters - and the best way to do that is to get together again and start planning for the World Cup qualifiers," added Strachan.

Scotland last played Czech Republic in a European Championship qualifier in 2011 at Hampden that finished 2-2.

Their last friendly meeting was a 1-0 home win for Scotland the previous year, with current captain Scott Brown scoring the winner.

The Scots' last meeting with the Danes was a 2-1 friendly win at Hampden under Craig Levein in 2011.

The Czechs qualified for Euro 2016 and will face defending champions Spain, Turkey and Croatia in the group stage.

Denmark failed to qualify after losing 4-3 on aggregate to Sweden in the play-offs.
