Cambridge United left-back Greg Taylor requires ankle surgery and has been ruled out for the rest of the season.

The 25-year-old has made 19 appearances for Shaun Derry's side this term, but was injured in the Boxing Day victory over Dagenham & Redbridge.

Meanwhile, Derry has confirmed striker Rory Gaffney will be involved with the U's after he returned from his loan spell at Bristol Rovers.

Gaffney scored five goals in seven games while with Rovers.

"My only intention in sending Rory out on loan was to get him fitter and hungrier for the rest of the season. Nothing has changed," Derry told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire.

"People say a deal was struck. Nothing was ever struck. Absolutely nothing. Rory has got an opportunity and he needs to take it.

"I'd be a fool to completely rule out a deal, but the door at Bristol Rovers is closed in my eyes. He's got another open door at Cambridge."
