Torquay United 0-0 Braintree Town

Torquay's four-game winning run came to an end as they were held to a goalless draw by promotion-chasing Braintree.

As the rain came down, the Gulls' Shaun Harrad went close before an effort on the turn from Toby Ajala crept wide.

Torquay continued to press in the second half and the hosts' Durrell Berry fired wide in a scramble after substitute Iffy Allen's low cross.

Mitch Brundle's effort, saved by Dan Lavercombe in the final stages, was as close as Braintree came.

Torquay suffered an injury blow in the first half when Nathan Blissett, who had scored four goals in his previous four games, limped off.

The hosts are now five games unbeaten and three points from safety in 22nd place, while Braintree remain fourth.
