Benik Afobe: Premier League goal a 'dream' for Bournemouth striker

Bournemouth striker Benik Afobe says scoring his first Premier League goal in Saturday's 3-0 victory over Norwich was a dream come true.

Afobe, 22, who joined the Cherries from Wolves earlier this month, netted in his second game for the club.

"I've just kept my eye on it, got good contact and I was delighted to see it go in," he told BBC Radio Solent.

"I've dreamt about this since I was a young boy, to get my first Premier League win and also my goal."

I was the England Under-21 international's 33rd league goals since the start of the 2014-15 season - only Manchester City's Sergio Aguero (36) and Ipswich Town striker Daryl Murphy (35) have more in the top four tiers in this period.

Bournemouth paid a club-record fee, thought to be about £10m, for the forward.

Afobe, who was clattered just before half-time by Norwich keeper Declan Rudd, was replaced in the closing stages of the match.

"It's hard to carry on with these kind of injuries and knocks, but I should be fine," he said.

"It's obviously the referee's decision to make but at the time I thought 'he (Rudd) is off here'.

"Adrenalin and momentum kept me going, but after the 80-minute mark I thought to myself that the gaffer's better off putting on someone that's fresh than a 70% fit Benik."
