Mark Yates: Crawley Town manager excited by Ziya Eren's takeover

Crawley Town manager Mark Yates says the takeover of the League Two side by a Turkish businessman should lead to "exciting times" for the club.

However, Yates is yet to find out the overall strategy of new owner Ziya Eren, who bought the Reds this week.

"I've met him once for 10 to 15 minutes and have talked to a couple of his representatives," he told BBC Sussex.

"Now it is actually finalised we can sit down properly over the next few days and see where we go from here."

Eren, a steel magnate, is also president of Turkish second division side Kayseri Erciyesspor and hopes Crawley can reach the Championship in eight to 10 years.

"Hopefully the president wants to come in, do the best for Crawley and make this club successful again," Yates added.

"The club needed a bit of freshening up and to get the place going again.

"His English isn't brilliant, but through his representatives he has put his basic outline of what they are going to try and do.

"We have not really gone into too much depth. Over the next week or so we can get their ideas and how the place will be run."

Crawley brought in Liam McAlinden on loan following Eren's takeover but Yates is unsure of any future links with Kayseri Erciyesspor - or the possibility of Turkish players arriving at the Checkatrade.com Stadium.

"I don't know about sister clubs and stuff like that, but I am sure that is something they are looking to explore," the 46-year-old said.

"There are lots of imponderables.

"Players have got to be the right quality and the right character. There aren't too many foreigners playing in League Two so it's something we have got to look at properly."
