Raith Rovers have rejected Dundee United's approach for manager Ray McKinnon to succeed Mixu Paatelainen.

United sacked the Finn last week following their relegation from the Scottish Premiership.

McKinnon guided Raith to the play-offs for the top flight, where they lost 2-1 on aggregate to Hibernian on Saturday.

Raith acknowledged, external that the Tannadice club had made an approach for the 45-year-old, but said that "permission has not been granted".

McKinnon, who had two spells at Dundee United as a player, took over at Raith Rovers in May 2015, having previously managed Brechin.
