Eric Dier: Tottenham midfielder signs new five-year contract

Eric Dier was born in Cheltenham but grew up in Portugal, progressing through the youth ranks at Sporting Lisbon

Tottenham midfielder Eric Dier has signed a new five-year contract, which runs until 2021.

Dier, 22, joined Spurs from Sporting Lisbon for £4m in August 2014, and has made 87 appearances for the club, scoring six goals.

Originally a central defender, he has established himself as a defensive midfielder, starting all four of Spurs' games this season in that position.

Dier made his England debut in 2015, and has scored twice in 12 caps.
