Guernsey FC boss Tony Vance says recent form is silencing critics

Guernsey FC did not win away in 2016, but have already won three times on the road this year

Guernsey FC boss Tony Vance says his side's recent Isthmian League Division One South form will have silenced some of their critics.

The Green Lions won 4-1 at relegation rivals Chatham on Saturday, moving them 11 points clear of the relegation zone.

"There are a few people that will get back in their boxes now and be quiet again for a while," Vance said.

"We didn't have an away win in 18 months and everyone was going on about that, which was becoming boring."

Guernsey have picked up eight points from their past five games, losing just one, and are closing in on safety with five matches left.

The returning Ross Allen came off the bench to score at Chatham and set a goal up, but Vance says the forward might not be involved this weekend.

"This sounds ridiculous because he came on and perhaps was the talisman that everyone thinks he is, but he might not even make the squad [next week] because to be fair it's a little bit early for him," added Vance to BBC Radio Guernsey.

"Over the last two months our away form has been better than our home form - that shows the character and challenge that the lads are facing, and what they've done well."
