Angus MacKay: Guernsey FC player's third red of season spurred team on, says boss

Guernsey FC manager Tony Vance says Angus MacKay's third red card of the season "spurred them on" in their 2-2 draw at home to Hythe Town.

The 30-year-old defensive midfielder was sent off after half-time after picking up a second booking.

The ex-Oxford United youngster has made only 11 starts this season, and now has five red cards in his time at the club.

"He was getting dealt a few blows off the ball and unfortunately it got to him," Vance told BBC Radio Guernsey.

"There was a lot of stuff going on off the ball but our players do know, and should know, that you've got to look after yourself and not get drawn into it."

Despite going down to 10 men, substitute Seb Skillen scored a late leveller as the Isthmian League Division One South side came from 2-0 down to draw.

"It probably typified the desire that was there, but just about stepped over the line," added Vance.

"Luckily it didn't cost us, it probably spurred us on, so he might have had an impact on the result in some ways."
