Huddersfield Town have signed midfielder Aaron Mooy from Manchester City for a club record fee of £8m, which could rise to £10m.
The 26-year-old spent last season on loan with the Terriers, helping them win promotion to the Premier League.
The Australia international represented his country in the Confederations Cup, where they exited at the group stage.
Meanwhile, Huddersfield have signed Mainz goalkeeper Jonas Lossl, 28, on a season-long loan.
The deal for Lossl, capped once by Denmark, includes an option to join the Premier League side permanently in June 2018.
Mooy joined City from Australian sister club Melbourne in June 2016 but did not make an appearance for the club.
Town boss David Wagner, who signed a new two-year deal on Friday, told BBC Radio Leeds: "He was one of our key targets because he was the heart of our team last season.
"When we had the chance to get him permanently, we all agreed that we needed to get it done as quickly as we could."
Chairman Dean Hoyle added: "Aaron made it very clear to us last season that he wanted to play in the Premier League this season and, if we were there, he would want to do that with us.
"I think we had a duty to try to make that happen for him because he made a huge contribution last season. He was a true terrier for us."
