Notts County 2-0 Morecambe

  • Published

Goals from Dan Jones and substitute Jonathan Forte stretched Notts County's unbeaten run to six games as they beat Morecambe at Meadow Lane.

Jones opened the scoring midway through the first half with a wonderful free-kick before Forte wrapped up the win with five minutes remaining.

It was no more than the hosts deserved for a solid performance which maintained their excellent start to the season under boss Kevin Nolan.

Notts had signalled their intent from the off as striker Shola Ameobi went close with a downwards header from a Jones corner.

The former Newcastle striker then forced a good save from Barry Roche from 25 yards as Notts pushed hard for the breakthrough.

But it was Morecambe who could and should have scored when Aaron McGowan's corner picked out Steven Old who headed straight at Adam Collin when completely unmarked.

Morecambe were instantly punished for that miss when Ameobi was fouled and Jones stepped-up to curl into the top corner.

Chances came and went for Notts to double their lead as Stead skied over the bar before Shaun Brisley headed onto the roof of the net.

But it was Forte who wrapped up the win as he steered in via the inside of the post.
